When people think of why some businesses are successful, they usually look to the founder for answers. But in my journey of entrepreneurship, I've discovered something that could be even more important than having a brilliant owner.
A system is a defined process of how the different parts of a business run. A good business has systems for everything. And I recently had a thought: What if I created a system for my day? So I quickly wrote (yes, actually wrote with pen and paper) what my idea was for my perfect day. Then I quickly realized that this perfect was far too...perfect. So I broke it down more. I asked myself, What would be my ideal reaction when I'm having a bad day or feeling depressed? And the picture below is what I wrote:
Due to my poor penmanship, I shall clarify and expand upon what's written. When I'm feeling bad, the first thing I should be doing is going outside to get a breath of fresh air. While I'm outside, I meditate for a little bit on my current mood or simply clear my mind. Then I take a few minutes to exercise. And finally, I complete an easy/fun task that I have for today.
And you might be asking, "Has this worked?" To which I reply, this blog post is literally a product of me being so lazy and unmotivated that I fell back on my system. Where does this blog post come in? This is the easy/fun task. Bam!
That's it. So, I ask you to take a minute right now and put down your phone or back away from the computer, find some pen and paper, and write down practical steps you can take immediately when you're either depressed, having a bad day, or just feeling a little lazy. And I'd love to hear what your systems are so maybe I could learn something today as well.
Now stop reading what I have to say and go turn your day around ;)
